Not much is different at Umpiem from other refugee camps at the Thai-Burmese border, except that many of the residents could be listed as long forgotten heroes.
Once prominent – the core leaders of the 1988 student revolution, the black listed politicians of Suu Kyi’s NLD party and the senior commanders from the Tatmadaw – have all faded into the shadow of obscurity at the camp.
A picture is said to be more powerful than a thousand words, as Dutch photojournalist Rohan Radheya captures the lives of refugees inside the Umpiem camp.
