Aug 7, 2008 (DVB), On the eve of the 20th anniversary of the 8888 uprising, the All Burma Federation of Student Unions has called on the Burmese people to rise up again to bring down the military regime.
The ABFSU in central Burma made the call in a message yesterday.
"It has been 20 years since the 8.8.88 uprising and we would like to urge students, youths, monks and the people to bring down the military regime and to bring about democracy and human rights in the country by staging a similar uprising," the group said.
The group said leaflets containing their message had been distributed in universities and colleges in Mandalay, Kyauk Se, Monywa and Magwe recently.
ABFSU members have said they will stage poster and leaflet campaigns whenever there is a chance to fight for democracy and for the rights of students and the people of Burma.
Security has been tightened in universities and colleges in central Burma in the lead-up to the 8888 anniversary.
