Seven workers were killed and three injured after scaffolding at a construction site collapsed in Shan state’s capital Taunggyi yesterday afternoon.
Four people were on the scaffolding and six were underneath the rig when it collapsed around 2:45pm. Six people died at the scene of the accident and one died with serious injuries at Sao San Htun Hospital in Taunggyi, while three other sustained minor injuries.
The workers were pouring concrete on the sixth floor when the accident occurred.
“We’re fine as long as [the company] takes responsibility,” said the sister of one of the injured labourers.
Htun Thiri Company Limited was managing the construction site.
There has been no official report on what caused the accident.
