40 Rohingyas granted Burmese citizenship

Burma has granted citizenship to 209 Muslims displaced by communal violence in Arakan State, according to Reuters citing immigration officials. Some 40 of that number were reported to be Rohingyas, whose claims to nationality have been rejected in the past. Others were members of the Kaman Muslim minority, who are recognised by the government as indigenous. No explanation for the criteria used in qualifying the 209 persons was reported.
