BRIEF - Bird flu prevention program implemented near China border

Six monitoring centres have been established along the Burma-China border to prevent the spread of H7N9, a resurgent strain of avian flu that recently broke out in China. Burma’s Livestock Breeding and Veterinary Department said that officials are educating domestic chicken breeders on flu prevention. Chicken imports from China are relatively low as domestic breeders typically meet local demand. To date there has been no report of infection in Burma.
