BRIEF – Cabinet vows to donate to anti-poverty fund

Presidential spokesperson Ye Htut has announced a poverty alleviation fund to which members of Burma’s cabinet will voluntarily donate a quarter of their monthly salaries. He did not specify a date of implementation. Ye Htut said that Burma’s vice presidents and several ministers decided to make the monthly donation after President Thein Sein vowed to do so. The total salary of some 90 members of Burma’s cabinet, including deputy-ministers, is now around 240 million kyat (US$240,000) per month.
