BRIEF – Foreigners can pay now Burmese trains in kyat

As from 1 April, foreign visitors to the country will be able to pay for all trains, whether long distance or local, in Burmese kyat as opposed to US dollars, Myanmar Railways has announced. Previously, all tourists or non-Burmese citizens had to pay inflated fees in foreign currency. For example, a fare which Burmese citizens would pay 9,300 kyat (US$9) would be sold to foreigners for $30.
