BRIEF – Former deputy border minister appointed Arakan MP

Gen. Maung Maung Ohn, Burma’s outgoing deputy minister of border affairs, has assumed a seat in the Arakan State parliament, replacing existing MP Gen. Nyan Lin Maung. He is currently chair of the Emergency Coordination Centre, the official interface between the government and humanitarian agencies, but it is unclear whether he will continue involvement with the ECC. There is speculation that he will become the next chief minister of Arakan State, following the retirement of Minister Hla Maung Tin.
