BRIEF – Kachin war 3 years on: rape continues, says NGO

Marking the third anniversary of armed conflict breaking out between Burmese government forces and the KIO, the Kachin Women’s Association Thailand (KWAT) has released a statement condemning human rights violations incurred by the civilian population, including torture, arbitrary executions, forced labour, restriction of aid, and sexual violence against women and girls. “Since the conflict began, at least 70 cases of sexual violence have been reported, half of which have resulted in the killings of the victims,” said KWAT.
