BRIEF – Ministry of Info to offer free govt newswire

Myanmar News Agency — run by Burma’s Ministry of Information — will provide government news to private media outlets free of charge, according to MoI head of public relations, Myint Kyaw. He said the newswire service will keep private media updated on official news, so they won’t have to wait until content is published in state newspapers and broadcast channels. The announcement follows an 1 August meeting between the president and the Interim Press Council, who raised concerns about difficulties reporters face trying to access officials.
