BRIEF - Naga want own census listing

Naga leader Naw Aung San has reiterated demands for Naga to appear on the census as a distinct ethnic identity, as opposed to its current listing as a Chin sub-nationality. The Naga and the Chin share much of the same territory in Burma’s northwest, however leaders of both groups agree that the ethnicities are similar yet separate. The Central Census Committee has repeatedly stated that the current ethnic categorisation as per the official 135 group list will stand unchanged for this census, but will be reevaluated after the results are in.
