BRIEF - Nearly 60 arrested for involvement in Mandalay riots

Fifty-six people have been arrested for their alleged participation in riots that shook Burma’s second-largest city in early July, state media reported on Sunday. Identities of the accused and details of the charges remain undisclosed. Two died and more than a dozen were injured during two nights of violence between Mandalay’s Buddhist and Muslim communities. Burma’s Ministry of Home Affairs stated that another 36 individuals are still under investigation, and 1,400 face legal action for violating a curfew instated after the violence.
