BRIEF – NLD member charged for ‘illegal use of loudspeaker’

The National League for Democracy’s Magwe Division secretary Nay Myo Kyaw could serve seven days in jail for defying officialdom by taking part in a rally for constitutional reform at which he addressed supporters via a loudspeaker. He told DVB he had been charged under a local village law which carries a maximum penalty of seven days in prison or a 5,000 kyat (US$5) fine. “I’m not paying the fine!” he stated defiantly.
