BRIEF – Seven new migrant registration centers to open in Thailand

Burmese migrants will soon be able to register at seven new offices in Thailand – Samut Prakan, Chonburi, Ranong, Suratthani, Chachoengsao, Songkhla and Ayutthaya. The move follows a recent “one stop service” launched in Mahachai, where thousands of Burmese work in fisheries. Other centres are located in areas where many Burmese and other migrants work, such as Mae Sot, Chiang Mai and Bangkok. Thai authorities also announced a new “hotline” that migrants can call with enquiries from 4 July; the number is 1694.
