BRIEF - South China Sea on ASEAN agenda

Senior officials from Vietnam and the Philippines said that they plan to raise the issue of China’s “provocative” behaviour in the South China Sea during the ASEAN summit, Kyodo News reported on Friday. The diplomats said that China is violating a 2002 agreement by advancing claims over disputed territories, particularly regarding confrontations near the Paracel Islands, over which Vietnam lays claim. The ASEAN summit will be held on 10-11 May in Burma’s capital city Naypyidaw.
