BRIEF – UN discussions tabled in upper house

Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs Tin Oo Lwin has told the upper house that Burma is ready to sign the UN multilateral rights treaty, according to The Global New Light of Myanmar. The state mouthpiece also reported that President Thein Sein proposed parliament discuss the possibility of Burma’s membership on the UN General Assembly in the future. Both declarations are part of a wider campaign by the Burmese government to improve their international image ahead of the November general election.
