BUSINESS – ADB signs deal to develop Burma’s electricity

A signing ceremony on a US$60m loan pledged by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for electricity development in Burma was held in Naypyidaw on Monday, according to a ministry official. The loan will be spent to upgrade power substations as well as lines and transformers, install digital revenue meters, and replace existing knots of bare low-voltage distribution lines with more efficient aerial-bundled conductor lines in Rangoon, Mandalay, Sagaing and Magwe Divisions. The project aims to reduce distribution loss by four percentage points.
