Curfew lifted in Sandoway

The curfew imposed on the Arakan State beach resort town of Sandoway (Thandwe) in the wake of last year’s communal violence was lifted on Wednesday, according to the Arakan State government spokesperson, Oo Hla Thein. Similarly, a curfew imposed in March on the state capital Sittwe following attacks by Buddhist mobs on UN and other iNGO offices in the town was removed in September. However, curfews in other towns in the state—including Butheedaung, Maungdaw, Myebon and Minbya are still in place.
