Muslim citizenship appeals seek Union-level approval

About 170 appeals for citizenship have cleared Arakan State immigration and await Union-level approval, officials from the western state said. Just over 1,000 stateless Muslims living in a displacement camp in Myebon, Arakan State, applied for citizenship in early August. Applicants were interviewed to determine how long their families had resided in Burma. The verification programme began in Myebon in June, and is expected to conclude in November.
