NGO demands action on dams

An environmental NGO has called on the Chinese, Thai and Burmese governments to halt and review all dam projects on the Salween River, citing rights and environmental concerns. In an open letter to the Chinese embassy, Burma Rivers Network refers to the risks that damming presents to the country as a whole by fuelling conflict and jeapordising the peace process. They stress the need to carry out broad assessments of all projects in terms of the conflict, environmental and social impact, and demand full disclosure of information by all actors.
