Suu Kyi’s house gate to be auctioned

The iron gate that stood in front of the home of Aung San Suu Kyi will be up for auction within two weeks, with a starting bid of US$200,000, AP reports. Soe Nyunt, the current owner, said the proceeds will go towards building a new National League for Democracy party headquarters and to help pay for celebrations to honour Suu Kyi’s father, Gen. Aung San. “This gate tells the history of the country’s democratic struggle,” he said, adding that he had originally bought the gate with the idea of placing it in a museum.
