Cartoon exhibition to raise funds for cyclone victims

Jul 17, 2008 (DVB), More than 200 cartoonists are participating in a fundraising cartoon exhibition in Rangoon to support victims of Cyclone Nargis, according to the editor of the weekly Eco Vision journal, one of the event's organisers.

The exhibition is to be held on 22 June at the Lawkanat art gallery on Pansodan street and profit made from selling over 500 strip cartoons, T-shirts, post cards and other souvenirs will go to the cyclone victims.

Cartoonist Win Aung, one of the event's contributors, said it was an honour to be part of the exhibition.

"This is an opportunity for us to support our people who are suffering," said Win Aung.

"It’s an honour for us cartoonists to have this chance, just like our brothers and sisters from other branches of the entertainment industry."

Cartoonist Aw Pi Kyal said people who love cartoons should come to the show to show their support for the artists’ work.

"It doesn’t matter if they don’t buy anything , just seeing them laugh and smile at a cartoon will make the artist happy," said Aw Pi Kyal.

"We would like those individuals and groups who can afford to buy something to come to the show too."

A similar cartoon exhibition held in Rangoon last month to raise donations for cyclone victims made over 4 million kyat.
