Civil servants evacuated from Arakan town by helicopter

The Burmese army on Thursday began airlifting civil servants from northern Arakan State’s Taungpyo Township following this week’s violence between armed mobs and security forces which has taken at least two dozen lives.

DVB’s local correspondent reported that more than 170 civil servants, mostly school teachers, gathered at a local high school, where they were airlifted on military helicopters to Buthidaung.
