Detainees transferred to unknown locations

Oct 8, 2007 (DVB), A number of monks and civilians detained at the Government Technology College compound in Insein township have been transferred to unknown locations by authorities, said witnesses.

An eye-witness, speaking on condition of anonymity, told DVB that several detainees were seen being taken from the GTC compound to an unknown location in eight military trucks at around 11pm last Wednesday.

"We don’t know where they were being taken to. The trucks went in the direction of Pyi road," said the witness.

Other sources said most of those who were being taken away from detention in GTC compound were students and monks who had probably been sentenced for their involvement in last month’s protests.

Another eye-witness reported four army trucks full of monks were spotted leaving the GTC compounds on Friday evening heading in the direction of lower-Mingaladon road at Khayaepin junction in Mingaladon township.
