DVB vehicle attacked in Mandalay

Unknown assailants hurled a brick at a car belonging to the DVB Roadshow team in Mandalay on Sunday night, leaving it with a broken window. It is believed that the vehicle was deliberately targeted.

The crew were staying at the Palace Hotel in Chanaye Tharzan Township on 2 February when they were told that their vehicle had been vandalised.

“We were informed by the hotel security that they had seen two middle-aged men on a moped, driving fast. They threw a brick at the 4×4 which had a DVB logo on it – out of all of the vehicles parked in front of the hotel – before they sped off,” said Than Win Htut, the show’s producer.

“The window on the left side of the back passenger seat was smashed in.”

He said that the assailants could not be identified as there was no CCTV coverage of the area where the four-wheel-drive vehicle was parked.

“The parking space in the backyard of the hotel was full, so we parked in the street. There were many other cars – expensive ones – parked to the left and right of our vehicle. It seemed like they specifically targeted ours.”

The DVB Roadshow team reported the attack at the local police station in Chanaye Tharzan Township. However, the police refused to open a case, saying that such matters are out of police jurisdiction, and advised them that the complaint should be filed at a court.
