Sep 15, 2008 (DVB), The funeral of second-year zoology student Mahn Bhu Khee, who was brutally murdered on 10 September, was held on Friday amid allegations of official corruption in the investigation into his death.

Mahn Bhu Khee, also known as Maung Cho, was a 19-year-old Chin Buddhist who had been studying in Myingyan.

He was attacked by a group of about 20 people as he made his way home from a funfair and died on the spot.

Around 200 people, including his parents, relatives, friends and fellow students, attended his funeral.

Mahn Bhu Khee's father U Hom Mahn, who is a gamekeeper at Natmataung national park and an army veteran, said he had gone with family members and the parents of Mahn Bhu Khee's friends to the hospital to collect his body.

"The way he died was on the street, torn apart, with knife wounds and a cracked head," U Hom Mahn said.

"My son doesn't drink. He wasn't staying at a boarding house, but at a private house. He asked the permission from the house to go to the pagoda festival," he said.

"I have only two sons, and I wanted them to be educated. I am a poor man, I can't express what I am feeling."

Mahn Bhu Khee was the nephew of Chin state Peace and Development Council chairman, lieutenant-general Hom Naing.

Another of Mahn Bhu Khee's uncles, Dr Shwe Kyee (also known as Dr Hom Aung), who lives in New Delhi in India but is in regular contact with his relatives, said the post mortem by Myingyan's chief doctor had not been satisfactory.

Dr Shwe Kyee alleged that the facts of the inquest had been suppressed due to tensions between the police chief and the investigating officers.

"From what I have learned, the doctor and the police chief are both taking bribes," he said.

"Now they are making it appear different to how it was. They are brazenly violating human rights , the blood of my nephew shows that there are no human rights in Burma."

The nephew of Myingyan district USDA official U Maung Maung was among the 20 people arrested so far in connection with the murder.

The hospital was not available for comment on the case.
