Chief Financial Officer

Position

DVB is in a period of dynamic transition.  Reporting to and partnering with the Executive Directors, the chief financial officer (CFO) will set DVB’s financial policy and direction while also being an active participant in, and driver of, the organization’s overall strategy.

The CFO will play a leadership role in identifying revenue and funding strategies, developing business plans, and ensuring the organization’s competitiveness.  S/he will lead all financial administration, business planning, budgeting, and maintain financial controls.

As a member of the senior leadership team, the CFO will work closely with the organization.  Media organizations are fast-paced businesses, and the CFO will have the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines in a quick and decisive way.

Specific responsibilities include:

Strategy

  • Oversee the fiscal health of the organization.
  • Partner with the Executive Directors on all operational and strategic issues in a proactive and forward-looking manner.
  • Participate in the ongoing strategic planning process as an integral member of the senior management team and evaluate the financial benefits or risks to proposed alternatives.
  • Provide strategic recommendations to the Executive Directors based on financial analysis and projections, cost identification and allocation, and revenue/expense analysis.
  • Identify and help develop – with the management team – new revenue streams the deliver profitability and growth.
  • Oversee budget planning and cost management in alignment with DVB’s strategic plan and good governance practices.
  • Ensure that the organization’s daily activities are in line with helping achieve its overall financial goals.
  • Coordinate with the head of development and the general manager to align financial management with short- and long-term financial planning and projections.
  • Engage the board finance committee around issues, trends, and changes in the operating model and operational delivery.
  • Develop new business models that create value and competitive advantage for DVB.
  • Introduce strong accounting and customer relationship management software as key drivers of business activity and knowledge.

Financial and Operational Management

  • Develop financial reporting systems that provide management with data that supports decision-making processes.
  • Oversee budgeting, and the implementation of budgets, to monitor progress and present operational metrics both internally and externally.
  • Provide financial forecasts that help the organization’s management team anticipate the future and thus have the ability to influence it.
  • Ensure that financial record systems are timely, useful and meet the standards required by funders, investors, and the law.
  • Oversee the preparation and approval of all financial reporting materials and metrics for funding organizations; prepare and communicate monthly and annual financial statements.
  • Manage cash flow and forecasting; direct all financial, project-based, and departmental accounting.
  • Coordinate all audit activities.

Team Management

  • Engage other members of the senior management team to facilitate cross-department collaboration so that the entire organization is deeply engaged in implementing its strategy.
  • Provide guidance on attracting and developing key employees for DVB.

Qualifications

The CFO will be strong leader with at least 10 years of broad finance and supervisory experience.  S/He will have:

  • Passion for DVB’s mission
  • Initiative and a proactive approach
  • A Bachelor’s degree minimum; preferably a graduate degree in finance or business
  • Demonstrated excellence in managing finance, accounting, budgeting, control, and reporting
  • Strong analytical skills and experience interpreting a strategic vision into an operational model
  • Skill in examining, developing, reengineering, and recommending financial, HR, and technology policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of financial regulations
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills
  • Strong commitment to developing team members
  • Fluency in either Burmese or English; proficiency in both; eligibility to work in Burma

 

Marketing and Sales

Position

DVB is in a period of dynamic transition.  Reporting to and partnering with the Executive Directors, the Marketing and Sales will set and lead the organization in achieving DVB’s revenue, sponsorship, audience and partnership goals.  With the Executive Editors, s/he will create integrated strategies that lead to increased audiences, profitability and competitiveness.

The Marketing and Sales will develop business plans, set and achieve revenue targets, and identify new business opportunities.  S/he will develop relationships with top stakeholders that are geared towards increasing and retaining their financial investments in DVB, whether as advertisers, sponsors, or members.

The Marketing and Sales will develop partnerships with other organizations that create new audiences for its content that then lead to new revenue.  S/he will expand and diversify the organization’s revenue base so that it is not overly reliant on one source of type of funding.

S/he will lead all revenue planning, new product development, marketing communication, customer research and analysis, and lead all sales-related activity.  The Marketing and Sales will prepare an annual sales budget and be responsible for achieving it.

Market Knowledge and Planning

  • Participate in the ongoing strategic planning process as an integral member of the senior management team and prepare trustworthy revenue estimates and expectations.
  • Evaluate the market to identify opportunities and threats; with the executive team, create and implement plans to address them.
  • Manage new product development so that offerings are competitive and successful.
  • Provide strategic recommendations to the Executive Directors based on sales analysis and projections, and market knowledge.
  • Develop new business models that create value and competitive advantage for DVB.
  • Track competitive spending in the market and use it to identify sales leads and strategic opportunities.
  • Inform the executive team on issues, trends, and changes in the market – and the implications for the organization.

Marketing Management

  • Manage all marketing and brand management operations.
  • Working with the executive team, develop a brand platform for DVB that differentiates it from competitors and is relevant to its many audiences.
  • Maintain brand consistency across platforms.
  • Develop an annual marketing plan that drives improvements among targeted groups, including audiences, advertisers, sponsors, and other partners.
  • Create marketing activities that deepen the brand’s relationship with its many constituencies.

Sales Management

  • Oversee revenue planning in alignment with DVB’s strategic plan.
  • Generate diverse revenue streams.
  • Manage sales operations with weekly sales goals that include overall revenue, number of new clients, and other relevant metrics.
  • Ensure that the organization’s daily activities are in line with helping achieve its overall financial goals.
  • Coordinate with the head of development and the CFO to align financial management with short- and long-term financial planning and projections.
  • Introduce strong accounting and customer relationship management software as key drivers of business activity and knowledge.
  • Provide weekly reporting on revenue achievements versus budget.

Financial and Operational Management

  • Oversee revenue budgeting.
  • Provide revenue forecasts that help the organization’s management team anticipate the future and thus have the ability to influence it.
  • Maintain databases of current/potential revenue sources and use that for targeting.

Team Management

  • Engage other members of the senior management team to facilitate cross-department collaboration so that the entire organization is deeply engaged in implementing its strategy.
  • Provide guidance on attracting and developing key employees for DVB.

Qualifications

 The Marketing and Sales will be strong leader with at least 10 years of broad marketing and sales management experience.  S/He will have:

  • Experience identifying market opportunities and managing new product development
  • Knowledge of professional sales and partnership marketing techniques, and the underlying systems needed to deploy them
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills
  • Strong commitment to developing team members
  • Fluency in either Burmese or English; proficiency in both; eligibility to work in Burma
