Maddaya NLD joins signature campaign

Feb 17, 2009 (DVB), Members of the National League for Democracy branch in Maddaya township, Mandalay, have decided to collect signatures of public support for the release of political prisoners.

Maddaya NLD members agreed to join in the campaign started by youth members on 12 February at the party headquarters in Rangoon.

The decision was taken at a monthly meeting held at the home of Maddaya MP-elect Than Lwin yesterday and the campaign will be carried out under the guidance of the party headquarters.

At the meeting, party members also gave their support to two other resolutions, according to township organising committee member Nyo Lay.

"We decided to support the statement issued on the 62nd anniversary of the Union Day, the release of all political prisoners and the signature campaign," Nyo Lay said.

Government officials watched the meeting but took no action to harass party members.
