Migrant workers donate blood for king's birthday

Dec 6, 2007 (DVB), Eighty Burmese migrant workers in the Thai border town of Mae Sot donated blood yesterday in honour of the Thai king's 80th birthday.

The Irrawaddy Migrants' Association organised the blood donation, which was held at Dr Cynthia Maung's Mae Tao clinic.

One of the organisers told DVB that the workers were happy to take part.

"We pray for His Majesty the King to get well soon and that he will be able to help the Burmese people as he has helped the Thai people," the organiser said.

King Bhumibol Adulyadej's birthday was celebrated across Thailand yesterday, including in Thai and migrant schools in Mae Sot.
