- Tens of thousands of ethnic people in Loikaw, Kayah state, peacefully demonstrated their opposition to the military coup this morning (Feb 8).
- It is reported that thousands of anti-coup protesters are continuing marching in towns and cities across Myanmar today(Feb8).
- It is reported that at least 10 people were injured when around 20 police opened fire with rubber bullets on Feb 7 at a peaceful anti-military-coup demonstration of about 200 people in Myawaddy, Karen State.
- The National League for Democracy (NLD) issued a statement on Feb7 that has called on the international countries and organizations that have formal diplomatic ties with Myanmar not to cooperate with illegitimate the government and organizations formed by the coup that forcibly seizes state sovereignty. The statement expressed that to work together on bilateral issues with the government led by President U Win Myint that democratically elected by the people.
- It is urged for an anti-military coup movement of banging on pots and pans to be held three times(8 a.m, 2 p.m and 8 p.m) a day. Since Feb 2 the movement has always started at 8 PM banging on pots & pans for about 30 mins including long honking & singing revolutionary songs in Yangon, followed by other states and regions. There have been being threatened, arrested, and imprisoned by police in some cities because of these movements, but still more and more people are joining that movement day by day.
- It is reported that Sagaing regional MPs elected by the people in the November election held successfully on Feb 7 the first regular Hluttaw session, according to NLD facebook page and released a statement that the Sagaing regional government led by Dr Myint Naing remain officially in that region. Of the 74 elected representatives, 34 attended the meeting in person and 33 people attended with an online conferencing system. The other 7 MPs were detained by the Military Coup and could not attend the meeting.
- On 6 Feb, the 2020 election elected MPs of the Yangon Region Hluttaw held their first regular session of the Yangon Region Hluttaw for the third time (the first day) with an online conferencing system.
- On 7 Feb 2021, the 2020 election elected representatives of the Tanintharyi Region Hluttaw held the third regular session of the Tanintharyi Region Hluttaw for the third time (first day) with an online conferencing system.Of the 21 elected representatives, 18 attended the meeting. The other three MPs were detained by military coup and could not attend the meeting, according to NLD facebook page.
- A total of about 300 Myanmar nationals including migrant workers, monks, students, and entrepreneurs in Thailand staged protests on Feb 7 in front of the Myanmar Embassy and UN Office in Bangkok against the military coup.
- On Feb 7, Pope Francis expressed his solidarity with the people of Myanmar protesting against the military coup and called on those in positions of responsibility in the country to show the sincere willingness to serve the common good, promoting social justice and national stability for harmonious and democratic coexistence.
- As of 8 PM,7 Feb, a total of 7,112 samples were tested and found more 54 new cases and 5 deaths. MoHS has reported 141,423 of total confirmed cases including
127,684 discharged, and 3,175 deaths.
- Attempt to dissolve the Union Government by force of arms and lawlessness was a criminal offense against the Union Government in violation of the provisions of Chapter 6 of the Penal Code, according to the statement issues on Feb 8 by Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH) recently formed by Nov election elected MPs.
- On Feb 6, the United States supports the right of Myanmar people to protest in support of the democratically elected government and their right to freely access information and repeats its calls for the military to relinquish power, restore the democratically elected government, release detained officials, lift all the telecommunications restrictions, and refrain from violence, according to the Statement of Thomas Vajda, U.S. Ambassador to Myanmar.
