NLD member dies during interrogation

Oct 11, 2007 (DVB)–National League for Democracy member Ko Win Shwe has died during interrogation, according to a statement released yesterday by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners.

Ko Win Shwe’s family was informed of his death on 9 October by authorities from Kyaukpandawn township.

“The authorities informed his family that he died during interrogation, but they refused to give the cause of death and wouldn’t let them see the body,” AAPP’s Ko Tate Naing told DVB.

According to the AAPP statement, Ko Win Shwe’s family was told that his body had already been cremated.

Ko Win Shwe was arrested along with four other people on 26 September at the start of the government's brutal crackdown on the monk-led demonstrations.
