Family interrogated after 88 students' visit

April 23, 2007 (DVB)—The family of political prisoner Ko Ba Nyar were interrogated by the police yesterday after the 88 Generation Student group visited their home as part of their ongoing White Sunday campaign.

Detectives from Rangoon's Kamayut township questioned the family over their ties with the 88 student leaders and asked if they had given them money, Ko Ba Nyar's sister, Ma Aye Mi San said.

"Fifteen minutes after Ko Min Ko Naing and Ko Ko Gyi left, the deputy police chief . . . Hla Thaung and local commander Hla Win came to question us. They asked details about my brother," Ma Aye Mi San said.

"They also asked us to provide them with a list of our family members . . . I am not very pleased with the way they questioned me," she said.

The 88 Generation Students visit the families of political prisoners every Sunday to offer moral support and advice as part of their latest campaign. More than 80 people joined the campaign yesterday, including writers Nang Nyunt Swe and San San Nwet.

Ma Aye Mi San said the group did not offer her family money and only visited them as an act of solidarity.
