Three journalists detained on Monday have been formally charged for ‘Unlawful Association’ and were imprisoned just after noon today.
The Irrawaddy’s Lawi Weng and DVB’s Aye Nai and Pyae Phone Aung, along with three civilians, were charged under the Unlawful Association Act and are currently being transferred to Hsipaw prison.
The journalists were detained travelling back from reporting on a drug-burning ceremony organised by the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA), an ethnic armed group based in northeastern Shan State.
One detainee, the truck driver of the vehicle that the group was pulled over in, has been released.
