More than a third of migrant fishermen in Thailand clearly were victims of trafficking over the past five years and even more workers in the industry were possibly trafficked as well, according to a report published on Thursday.

The United States Agency for International Development Oceans and Fisheries Partnership (USAID Oceans) and UK satellite operator Inmarsat have signed a partnership agreement to improve traceability and promote sustainable fishing in Southeast Asia with the use of satellite communications.

“The fisheries department intends to ensure there is no shortage of fish despite the ongoing violence in Maungdaw.”
