A prayer vigil was held on Tuesday at Rangoon’s Shwedagon pagoda for victims of the catastrophic Nepal earthquake that shook the Himalayan country on 25 April, in which at least 4,000 are believed to have died. The quake has devastated the country which is vastly under-resourced to deal with such an event, with many fearing an escalation of the humanitarian disaster if a timely and well coordinated response is not made.
Many Nepali expatriates attended the service, presided over by monks.
