Burma’s pro-democracy icon Aung San Suu Kyi yesterday began her first trip outside Rangoon since 2003, to the ancient city of Bagan. Followed by hordes of onlookers, the Nobel laureate walked around crumbling temples with her youngest son, Kim Aris, who made his second trip to Burma’s since Suu Kyi’s release from house arrest in November last year.
