Seven farmers from Kanbalu in Sagaing Division, jailed for staging plough protests on confiscated land, were released from prison after serving their full three-month sentences.
A court hearing for more than 170 farmers from Kanbalu Township, who were charged for conducting plough protests, is postponed after their lawyers petitioned for jailed farmers to be included in the proceedings.
Some 1,500 farmers rallied for the release of 57 jailed land rights activists in central Burma’s Sagaing Division on Wednesday.

According to Sagaing villager, 384 acres of land will be returned by military, which confiscated 3,000 acres in Hyaukshai village in 1999 for a sugarcane plantation project.
Around 20 farmers from Kanbalu, jailed for holding a “plough protest” in March, have this week been transferred to prisons far from their homes.
