The Message

Burma is partly closed. Media is strongly censored; there is no free press. People have no freedom to express their opinions. Burma is surrounded by a wall. The Best Friend (TBF) tries to break this wall by sending messages to the people inside Burma – personal messages from people like you and me; messages of support, of kindness of compassion, of strength. Add your voice.

The Best Friend is currently running the “Messages to the People of Burma” campaign. People can write down their personal message of support to the Burmese people, take a photograph of it and send it to The Best Friend. It will then be posted on the website and on TBF’s Facebook page.

Messages have been collected at recent events such as film screenings and the Peace Walk in Chiang Mai and also via the internet. The main goal of the Photo Message Project is to send a strong message of support and solidarity to the people of Burma at this important time. Apart from that, we wish to remind the Burmese people that they have the right not to participate in the regime’s sham election. The campaign has a dual purpose: we wish to show the people inside Burma that people outside know, care and support them and are thinking about them. But this photo project is also a way to raise awareness of the situation in Burma to people outside, as still too many people do not know what is happening inside Burma. The more people know, the stronger the outcry over the human rights abuses in Burma will be.

Participate in our action and send your own messages inside. Let the people inside Burma know that you are aware of what is happening, that you support them, that they are in your heart. Raise your voice and let all your voices together become a powerful message of strength and solidarity!

Watch other people’s words and add your own
