Trader’s bomber sentenced to life in jail

Saw Myint Lwin has been convicted of planting and detonating a bomb at the Trader’s Hotel in Rangoon in October 2013.

A DVB reporter who was at the court said the 26-year-old was found guilty and was sentenced to life in prison.

“He was sentenced on three charges – one for 20 years imprisonment for the planting of the bomb, one for life imprisonment for the explosion itself, and one for five years with hard labour for causing harm, as a foreigner was injured,” he said.

Two other suspects Zaw Maung Latt and Mya Phuu were released, reporter Khin Maung Win said.

On 14 October 2013, a bomb exploded at the Traders’ Hotel in Rangoon. One American woman was injured.

On the same day, a bomb was found planted at Western Park restaurant at Alon Township in Rangoon; three people including Saw Myint Lwin were arrested and charged.
