Veteran protestor hospitalised after accident

Jul 23, 2008 (DVB), Naw Ohn Hla, organiser of the weekly Tuesday prayer campaign for the release of political prisoners, is in hospital after being involved in an accident on Monday, a day before the campaign’s four-year anniversary.

Naw Ohn Hla's co-worker Ko Aye Naing said she had suffered a serious head injury after she fell out of a passenger bus which rolled over and crashed upon entering Hmawbe township outside Rangoon.

"She is only half-conscious at the moment in Hmawbe – she had about 19 stitches in her head due to the injury and the doctors are going to x-ray her skull again," said Ko Aye Naing.

"She was travelling to Hmawbe from her village which is located near the town to make a donation to monks for the prayer campaign’s fourth anniversary."

He said government officials in civilian clothing were at the hospital and were providing assistance to her.

Naw Ohn Hla, a former NLD member and veteran protester, has been under a movement restriction order for her enthusiastic participation in demonstrations and political activities.
