Wife paid men $42 each to murder her husband

A woman in the central Burmese town of Kyaukpadaung has been arrested for ordering the murder of her husband. It is alleged that she paid six men the equivalent of US$42 each to kill him in his bed while he slept.

Kyaukpadaung police reported last Wednesday that the body of a dead man with nine stab wounds had been discovered five miles to the west of the town. The victim was later identified as Min Zaw Oo, who ran a charcoal factory from his home.

Following questioning, local police say, six workers from Min Zaw Oo’s factory confessed to murdering him after being offered 300,000 kyat – 50,000 kyat each ($42) – by his wife Aye Aye Cho.

According to the workers, Aye Aye Cho ordered the hit following an argument with Min Zaw Oo, her fourth husband.

The men allegedly admit that on the evening on 15 June, they entered Min Zaw Oo’s home while he was asleep, held him down, and repeatedly stabbed him. They then took his body outside of town on a motorcycle and dumped it.

Aye Aye Cho and the six men have all been charged with murder and detained pending trial.

Kyaukpadaung is located some 200 km southwest of Mandalay, near the famous tourist attraction of Mount Popa.
