BRIEF – Burma aims to repeal 'Least Developed Country' status by 2021

The Burmese government is setting a goal to repeal the country’s status as a Least Developed Country (LDC) by 2021, more than 30 years after first landing on the list in 1987, according to the president’s economic adviser Zaw Oo. Speaking at an event on economic reforms at the Myanmar Development Resource Institute, Zaw Oo said that the country has managed to reduce the number of people living below the poverty line from 32 percent to 26 percent.
