BRIEF – Govt agency looks to prevent avian flu

Results from a UNFAO workshop held in late April will help Burma combat the potential incursion of H7N9, a strain of avian influenza that broke out last year in China, an advisor from the Livestock Breeding and Veterinary Department said last week. Dr. Aung Gyi said the government has been holding workshops to plan a response since the UN agency issued a warning in February that Burma could be vulnerable to the spread of the virus. He also said poultry breeders should not sell dead chickens as they could be carrying the virus.
