BRIEF – More calls for literary freedom

The Myanmar Writers Union (MWU) has urged the Burmese government to take action against those with “extremist views” who harass and impede literary figures and events, in response to the recent cancellation of two literature talks – one in Rangoon and one in Mandalay – after pressure from monks who objected to Muslim speakers. MWU’s statement is the latest in a stream of reproves, other critics including the international writer’s rights group PEN.
