BRIEF - Parliament considers new rules for dismissal of MPs

Burma’s upper house of parliament is considering new rules for the dismissal of representatives, MP Hla Swe told DVB. Members discussed amendment of a clause permitting the dismissal of military seatholders following complaint by an individual, with some suggesting that it require backing by at least ten witnesses. The bill is expected to be adopted during the current parliamentary session because of pressure from the Union Election Commission, as some complaints have already been filed against seatholders, he said.
