BRIEF - Six Burmese sailors released from hijacked Singaporean tanker

Six Burmese nationals were among 21 sailors released from an oil tanker that was hijacked off the coast of Ghana, Channel News Asia reported on Sunday. The 3,200-tonne Singaporean ship — manned by a South Korean captain and chief engineer — was hijacked on 26 July, Seoul’s foreign ministry told CNA. The ministry said that all of the sailors were released unharmed off the coast of Nigeria. Piracy in west African waters has risen steeply in recent years, usually targeting ships carrying valuable loads of fuel and other goods.
