Gas prices threatened by drop in oil value

The Deputy Energy Minister Aung Htoo said on Thursday that the global fall in oil prices might affect the Burmese gas sector. Speaking in parliament, the minister said that as the price of Burmese gas is determined by Singapore’s average oil price, a decrease in oil value might affect Burma’s gas prices. Gas revenue makes up around 30 percent of the total foreign income. Aung Htoo did however say that the Shwe and Zawtika offshore gas projects were able to meet their projected outputs.
