Rotavirus vaccine rollout in 2017

Burma’s Health Ministry has announced plans to add a rotavirus vaccine to the country’s vaccination programme. Distribution to infants under one year is expected to commence in 2017, according to Dr Than Tun Aung, director of the Department of Health’s Central Epidemiology Unit. Rotavirus is the most common cause of severe diarrhoea among infants, with 25 percent of cases in children attributed to the virus. The announcement comes alongside new education and treatment programmes designed to prevent outbreaks of the infectious disease.
