Myanmar delegation attends Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence conference in China

Former President Thein Sein is attending the 70th Anniversary of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence conference in Beijing today, according to the Embassy of China in Myanmar.

“At the invitation of China, Thein Sein, the former President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, left Naypyidaw to attend,” regime media reported.

Ambassador Chen Hai met the former president before he departed to discuss “issues such as the situation in Myanmar and China-Myanmar cooperation” on June 26.

The President of the Myanmar Institute of Strategic and International Studies Thant Kyaw, the Chairperson of the Myanmar-China Friendship Association Tin Oo, and the Chairperson of the U Nu-Daw-Mya Yi Foundation Than Than Nu, joined Thein Sein’s delegation to Beijing.

The Embassy of China stated that other officials accompanied the delegation, but did not specify their names. Thein Sein, 79, was president of Myanmar from 2011-16. He is a retired military general. This is reportedly his first trip to China since the 2021 military coup.

Regime leader Min Aung Hlaing has not been invited to Beijing since the coup. China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that President Xi Jinping delivered a keynote speech at the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence conference earlier today.

“The FPPC has been widely accepted and recognized by countries across the world. They have become part and parcel of the fundamental norm governing international relations and basic principles of international law,” said Mao Ning, the spokesperson at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China.
