Members of the National Unity Party (NUP) hand out flyers as they campaign for votes for Myanmar's upcoming elections, in Yangon October 5, 2010 Myanmar will hold its first election in two decades on November 7 as part of a process critics say has been carefully crafted to ensure the military retains its five-decade grip on power. The army-dominated political process has been dubbed an "election of generals" and widely dismissed as a sham, but there is hope that the system could spur reforms and gradually take power away from authoritarian military officers.
